Puerto Rico timeshare
Puerto
Rico timeshare is a good option for anyone wanting to buy a vacation home
in Puerto Rico but can't, or doesn't want to commit to the investment
required to buy outright.
The idea behind timeshare is a simple one - a group of people share the cost of a vacation home and have the right to use it for certain weeks of the year.
What this means in practice is that use of a property is divided into 52 one-week units.
Up to 51 owners buy a share in the property with the right to occupy it according to the unit they purchased and one week is reserved for maintenance.
Timeshare regulations
Puerto Rico’s timeshare law is comparable to Florida, which is considered to be the strictest in the United States.
Although the timeshare industry generally has sometimes obtained a rather bad reputation for the hard-sell, this doesn't seem to have affected timeshare in the island.
The Puerto Rico Timeshare and Vacation Club Act is designed to safeguard Puerto Rico's consumers and the tourism industry by specifying the rights of owners and establishing procedures in the industry - the creation, sale, exchange, promotion, and operation of timeshare plans and vacation clubs.
Where to buy
When choosing where to buy a Puerto Rico timeshare you should consider why you are buying. Timeshare doesn't usually make a good financial investment, but it can be very attractive if there is one area you enjoy a lot and intend to visit the same place often.
Other owners buy a Puerto Rico timeshare in locations that are in high demand - they stay at their timeshare occasional, but trade it with other timeshare owners.
What to buy
Although buying from a developer may be your only choice in some areas, you may be able to find a Puerto Rico timeshare for sale at a discount if you do some homework first.
