Mamacita's - Culebra Island
If you are looking for a small, friendly guesthouse with a great restaurant then Mamacita's on Culebra fits the bill entirely.
Located in the town of Dewey on Culebra, Mamacita's has just a handful of rooms and a popular bar and restaurant. Many visitors to Culebra drop by for a pre or after-dinner drink and the restaurant is our favorite in the whole of Puerto Rico.

The menu specializes in pan-Caribbean dishes rather than focusing solely on Puerto Rican food and the crab cakes are one of the best things we've ever eaten anywhere. On the Saturday night - the second of a three night stay - we were all entertained by the arrival of a group of drummers who then proceeded to get most of the people in the bar dancing to their wild rhythms.
It's not so noisy all the time though and the bar closes at 11 - unless you want a really early night you're unlikely to be disturbed by either drummers or the chatter from the bar.
The rooms, which are converted from a house, are clean and spacious and although Mamacita's is painted in shockingly bright Caribbean colors on the outside, our room was more subdued and rather tasteful once inside. The bathroom was nice and big and decorated in a sea theme - quite appropriate for the Caribbean.
As well as serving great food the restaurant had another attraction on our second morning - at least four or five large iguanas came to sun themselves at the water's edge.
It was fantastic to watch these almost prehistoric creatures at such a close range. Since we were eating a selection of tropical fruits for breakfast we did share it with them, just to watch them in action.
