Currency in Puerto Rico
As the currency in Puerto Rico is the US Dollar, travelers from the United States have no need to purchase foreign currency.
If you are traveling from another country though, you should be aware of the currency restrictions that limit the amount of cash and/or travelers checks that can be brought in or taken out.
Luckily the amount is relatively high, but if you are traveling to or from anywhere outside the United States you must make a customs declaration if you are carrying the equivilent of $10,000 or more.
Although credit cards are widely accepted in Puerto Rico it is useful to have some cash to hand and if you arrive at San Juan Airport without cash then the Banco Popular in terminal C can exchange your money.
